报告摘要:
  Over the years, the response of structures to blast loading has included monolithic plates and stiffened plates subjected to both localised and uniform blast loads. Other structures include fibre metal laminates, sandwich structures and square tubes. This presentation will present an overview of the experimental and numerical results.

报告人简介:
  Prof. Nurick is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. He is the Director of the Blast Impact and Survivability Research Unit (BISRU), a fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering, an honorary fellow of the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has spent 25 years researching the blast loading of structures.

报告摘要:
  Recent hardware and software advances have enhanced experimental measurements in the quasi-static to low speed impact regime, so that full field transient strain measurement is the new standard for experimental-numerical validation. Extending this to blast loading has been attempted for far field loading, but not in the near field explosion case. This lecture will present a review of previous methods used to measure the response of structures to blast loading, and report on some recent developments in this area. The lecture will also show some experimental and numerical work on the response of fiber metal hybrid materials to blast loading to show the importance of transient measurements. Finally, some high speed camera footage of the response of fiber metal laminates to blast loading will be used to estimate the duration of response.

报告人简介:
  Prof. Langdon is Deputy Head of Department (Research) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. She has a PhD from the University of Liverpool. She is also a founding member of the South African Young Academy of Science, a former fellow of the 1851 Royal Commission and a recipient of the University of Cape Town Fellows Young Researcher Award.
